The Opernhaus Zürich is Switzerland’s largest cultural institution and is, with 12 new productions each year on the main stage, one of the most prolific opera houses in Europe. Each season, the Opernhaus presents numerous revivals, concerts, recitals, a broad program for young audiences, and over 300 performances. In addition to classical operatic repertoire, the theater is steadfastly dedicated to contemporary musical theater, programming world premieres and 20th century works, all the while continuing the Zurich tradition of cultivating Baroque opera with world-class casting and historically-informed orchestral readings. Since 2012, Andreas Homoki has been Intendant and artistic director, Fabio Luisi general music director, and Christian Spuck ballet director. In 2014, the Opernhaus Zürich was named Opera Company of the Year at the International Opera Awards. Alongside internationally renowned singers, the Opernhaus Zürich values the unique artistic contributions that distinguished production teams bring to the stage, and considers training young, up-and-coming artists an essential component of its mission. The Opernhaus Zürich was built in 1891 and is a jointly held public company with 2,500 private shareholders.
