Andy Scherrer taught the saxophone at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern from 1975 to 2011. In 1973, he started working as a freelance musician, in his own bands and with the likes of the Slide Hampton-Joe Haider Orchestra, Isla Eckinger's band the Hot Mallets, Billy Brooks's group Free Bop, as well as with Renato Anselmi and the Swiss band Magog in collaboration with Klaus Koenig and Cojazz (as pianist). His first recordings as bandleader date back to 1999 (quartet, special sextet, duo with Bill Carrothers).
