Joy Frempong was born in Ghana in 1978. She came to Switzerland in 1986 and currently lives in Berlin. She studied jazz singing and educational science in Bern. OY began as her solo project, and has since become a duo with musician Lleluja-Ha. Joy Frempong has developed her own signature style which melds the sounds, noises and stories of Africa with western music. She has been involved in various music projects, including the group Stade, and the bands Filewile and Phall Fatale.
