German-Czech composer Franziska Eva Wilhelm (*2003) grew up in Schondorf am Ammersee in South Germany. She started playing the piano at an early age and composing shortly after. From age 16 she had composition lessons with Henrik Ajax in Munich for two years.
Wilhelm was awarded the Special Prize by the competition “Jugend Komponiert Bayern” in 2021 and was commissioned to write a chamber orchestra piece for the Munich Classical Players.
In January 2022 she attended the Young Composers Workshop at the “Arnold Schoenberg Center” in Vienna.
Franziska Eva Wilhelm received a scholarship for working on a project with the National Young Composers Competition of Germany (“Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Komponiert”) and the New Music organization “Neues Zeug” on composing a piece that is suitable for intermediate students in music schools. The piece was premiered in October 2023.
Wilhelm was the youngest resident of the Ostrava Days 2023 Institute. During the festival her ensemble piece Diametralspiele (2022) was performed by Ostravská Banda.
Wilhelm likes exploring different fields with her work, such as the connection of improvisation and composition in her pieces Diametralspiele (2022) and Ludum in Ludo (2022), pieces focusing on the perception of the performers, algorithmic composition as well as spatial aspects of composition.
Since September 2021 she lives in Zurich and studies composition with Isabel Mundry at Zurich University of Arts.
