"Jodeln", for piano harmonics, concentrates on gradations of timbre and is an exploration of the world of overtones with their subtle nuances of color, pitch, and reverberation. The piano is suddenly able to produce, among other things, microtones, unisons of different timbres, and middleregister sounds having a much longer decay rate than usual –bringing it near to a wind instrument. Formally, it evolves as a cyclical spiral branching off at particular point in order to highlight a detail and return more or less inconspicuously to the main cycle.
