Mehdi Hosseini: Hesar
Performed by the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor: Hong Yin (洪音)
About the Performance:
On April 2, 2026, the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra performed Mehdi Hosseini’s significant orchestral work "Hesar" at the Ningde Art Museum Concert Hall in #China. This performance served as the centerpiece of the 1st Ningde Composition Camp Symphony Concert, titled “Symphony of Mountains and Seas • Blessings Gathering in Ningde.”
Originally composed in 2013, “Hesar” (meaning “Enclosure” or “Fence” in #Persian) is a profound exploration of space, memory, and tradition. The work takes its inspiration from the ancient archaeological site of Tepe Hissar in #Iran, weaving the echoes of the past into a modern symphonic tapestry.
Musically, “Hesar” is rooted in the monodies structures of the Dastgāh-e Čahārgāh, one of the primary modes of Persian classical music. Hosseini utilizes these ancient modal foundations to create a contemporary soundscape that is both structurally rigorous and deeply evocative.
