Mauro Hertig (*1989 in Switzerland) is a composer with an output of ensemble, chamber and site-specific works. His focus lies on the exposition of musical perception and memory and the fluid relationship between score and sound.
He studied at University of the Arts in Zürich and at Kunstuniversität Graz, receiving his Bachelor with Isabel Mundry and Master of Arts in Composition with Beat Furrer and Klaus Lang. Further studies include courses and masterclasses with Georges Aperghis, Helmut Lachenmann, Elliott Sharp, Felix Profos and Peter Ablinger.
His works have been commissioned by Ensemble Recherche, Collegium Novum Zürich, Österreichischer Rundfunk ORF, Royaumont Foundation, Impuls Verein Graz, Soyuz21 Ensemble, Festival für Neue Musik Rümlingen, Open Music, Platypus Ensemble Vienna among others.
In 2016, Mauro Hertig has been selected as Promising Young Composer by the European-wide Ulysses Network/IRCAM, which resulted in a journey of selected residencies from 2017 to 2020. More recently, he was composer-in-residence at the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST) Zürich and at 180° Festival for Innovative Art in Sofia. He is laureate of the Voix Nouvelles Academy Royaumont 2019. The site-specific work “Liquid Contra” for six speakers was displayed at London Design Festival 2018.
2018-19 included a portrait concert by the Austrian National Broadcast ORF and Jeunesse Vienna, as well as the premiere of the landscape opera “Die Perfekte Passivität” for the Festival Rümlingen. 2020 will see premieres by Duo Coleman/Goepfert (2020), Ensemble Soundtrieb (2020), along with a commissioned work by the 58th Belgrade Biennale. In 2021 Sax Duo “eventuell” will stage a new comissioned work, as well as Florentin Ginot (Musikfabrik Köln), who will premiere an expansive new work for double bass at Festival Royaumont 2021.
