Created in Lausanne in 2019 by cellist Lucie Göckel and vibraphonist Lenni Torgue, the “Luni Duo” is a hybrid musical ensemble. In a wish to reclaim 20th century French composers’ music, the two musicians chose Debussy’s piano pieces in their project entitled “Préludes”. In 2022, they then chose to dive into the poems of Verlaine, Baudelaire and Anna de Noailles to create “Lumières Double”, an intimate show that combines 19th century-poetry with contemporary improvisation.
With their contrasting musical aesthetics, the two musicians keep questioning the sometimes fine borders between artistic styles and disciplines. They do so not only in their interpretation of the pieces, but also as far as the arrangement, improvisation and composition go. By deftly combining written passages with improvisation, “Luni Duo” manages to reinvent a music that constantly travels from one universe to the next.
The duo was a laureate of the Lavaux Classic 2020, where it won the “Grand prix des mécènes” as well as the audience award.
