Christoph Gallio, saxophone & composition (*1957) Lives in Baden, Switzerland. Self-taught. Studied saxophone with Iwan Roth at the Basel conservatory and music with Steve Lacy in Paris. Master of Arts in Transdisciplinarity at the Zurich University of the Arts. In 1987 he won the Action Arts Price of the city of Basel, in 2009 the Berlin Atelier and 2022 the London Atelier of the Kanton Aargau and the Buenas Aires Atelier oft he City of Baden in 2017. Since 1988 Gallio leads the Swiss trio DAY & TAXI (with bass player Silvan Jeger and drummer Gerry Hemingway (USA) since 2013/18). And also the quintet ROAD WORKS in collaboration with fine artists like Beat Streuli and Caro Niederer (with Dominique Girod on double bass, Silvan Jeger on synthesizer and electronics, Raphael Loher on piano and electronics and Nicolas Stocker on drums).
Since 1977 he has played with Irene Schweizer, Irene Aebi, Sara Maurer, Sylvia Nopper, Peter K Frey, Urs Voerkel, Günter Müller, Alfred Zimmerlin, Matthew Ostrowski, Markus Eichenberger, Stephan Wittwer, Andy Guhl, Norbert Möslang, Peter Kowald, Dennis Charles, Bern Nix, Michael Lytle, Marino Pliakas, Thomas Eckert, Konstantin Sedovin, Peter Schärli, David Watson, Kalle Laar, Robert Dick, Werner Lüdi, Urs Blöchlinger, Lindsay L Cooper, Fred Frith, Phil Minton, John Russel, Haco, Roberto Domeniconi, Chie Mukai, Takashi Kazamaki, Tetsu Saitoh, Naoki Kita, Samm Bennett, Onnyk, Ryoji Hojito, Uchihashi Kazuhisa, Kazutoki Umezu, Ellen Christi, William Parker, Rashied Ali, Roger Turner, Urs Leimgruber Dieter Ulrich, Christian Wolfarth, Marco Käppeli, Dominique Girod, Daniel Studer, Christian Weber, Silvan Jeger, Gerry Hemingway, Fabiana Galante, Luis Conde, Paula Shocron, Pablo Diaz, Sergio Merce, Cecilia Quinteros, Marcelo von Schultz etc. Performed solo and with dancers Tomiko Takai, Christine Brodbeck, Yvonne Meier and Franz Frautschi. Worked together with artists Caro Niederer, Eric Hattan, Beat Streuli, Alex Silber, Claude Gaçon and with writer Kurt Aebli. Since 1986 he has been composing. Christoph Gallio played on international Jazzfestivals in Canada, China, Japan, Russia, Kasachstan, Chile, Argentina, Europe and the USA.
