African Arts in Performance Context: a Holistic Examination.

Klassik, Jazz und Pop dominieren im westlichen Kulturkreis die Rezeption von Musik – «Beyond Music» bietet die Gelegenheit, sich mit der Tonkunst in alternativen Kontexten zu befassen. 2024 gilt das besondere Interesse den Traditionen Afrikas und Indiens, verbunden mit der Frage, wie diese in der Gegenwart fortwirken.

In the African concept, the arts are integrative and the approach to its creation is collaborative. Dr. Josephine Abbe examines the holistic nature of the African arts through the windows of the performing arts as captured in Igue festival ceremonies that replete with dramatic actions, dance, songs and costume display. She explores how African arts can be studied in performance context to enhance comprehensive learning, sharing, and documentation of knowledge.
